چکیده

The low-frequency time variations of the Northern Hemisphere 500-hPa heights have been investigated using the orthogonal rotated principal component analysis applied to the data provided by the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis for the period 1958-1998. The major modes for the climate in the Euro-Atlantic sector are described in detail. Their relations with the 11 climatic elements in the Czech Republic are analyzed using simple correlations. Four modes were found over the Euro-Atlantic sector during the year. Their influence on climate in central Europe is documented by statistically significant correlations with temperature, precipitation and other climatic variables in winter and summer seasons.

CMSAF Radiation Data: New Possibilities for Climatological Applications in the Czech Republic

Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CMSAF) data have been studied in the Czech Republic for approximately 10 years. Initially, validation studies were conducted, particularly regarding the incoming solar radiation product and cloudiness data. The main focus of these studies was the surface incoming shortwave (SIS) radiation data. This paper first briefly describes the validati...

Winter Climate Extremes over the Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada and Teleconnections with Large-Scale Modes of Climate Variability*

The relationship between winter climate extremes across the northeasternUnited States and adjacent parts of Canada and some important modes of climate variability are examined to determine how these circulation patterns are related to extreme events. Linear correlations between 15 extreme climate indices related to winter daily precipitation, maximum and minimum temperature, and three dominant ...

Meteorological modes of variability for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air quality in the United States: implications for PM2.5 sensitivity to climate change

We applied a multiple linear regression model to understand the relationships of PM2.5 with meteorological variables in the contiguous US and from there to infer the sensitivity of PM2.5 to climate change. We used 2004–2008 PM2.5 observations from ∼1000 sites (∼200 sites for PM2.5 components) and compared to results from the GEOS-Chem chemical transport model (CTM). All data were deseasonalized...

Crystal Structure and Nanoparticles of Dinuclear Silver(I) Complex [Ag2(PPh3)2(μ-S-4nb-tsc)2(η1-S-4nb-tsc)2](NO3)2

Nanoparticles of a new dinuclear silver(I) complex [Ag2(PPh3)2(μ-S-4nb-tsc)2(η1-S-4nb-tsc)2](NO3)2, where 4nb-tsc = 4-nitrobenzylidenethiosemicarbazone and PPh3 = triphenylphosphine, were prepared in an ultrasonic bath and characterized by FT-IR and SEM. The crystal structure of a suitable single crystal prepared by slow evaporation was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compou...

Impact of 2000–2050 climate change on fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air quality inferred from a multi-model analysis of meteorological modes

Studies of the effect of climate change on fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air quality using general circulation models (GCMs) show inconsistent results including in the sign of the effect. This reflects uncertainty in the GCM simulations of the regional meteorological variables affecting PM2.5. Here we use the CMIP3 archive of data from fifteen different IPCC AR4 GCMs to obtain improved statis...
